And here’s another lame explanation for you: we’ve decided to suspend our secret word system for a little while. The discounts were adding up and we are trying to be frugal. But the idea was to encourage more of you to read my notes and it seems to have worked. So thanks! I love to hear that you’re paying attention!
Now corn. I always want to talk about corn. While I was at the beach we went to a farm stand and bought fresh corn. One of my favorite things to eat. And this corn was straight from the field so I was excited. But what a disappointment! And I realized how spoiled I am. Just nothing beats our own NMF corn. But why??
Well, I know the reasons, and there are several. First of all, we’ve been growing corn for 45 years, and we keep trying to do it better. So we have the VARIETIES that we know are going to have the eating quality we want. There are literally thousands of varieties out there and they each have characteristics that the breeder is aiming for, and those are often not about eating quality. If you’re a farmer growing corn and selling it to some supermarket, you don’t see the people who eat it so you don’t care if they’re happy. But WE see YOU, and we’re gonna see you next week. So we care that you’re happy with our corn’s eating quality. (Not to mention that we’re going to eat it too!). So we search for the seed that’s going to give us the best eating quality. And that’s usually not the cheapest seed. Seed prices vary widely, and we know that the cost of the seed is nowhere near as important as eating quality.
Tune in next week for a few other reasons why our corn is so incredibly good.
See you Saturday. (With corn).
